I live in central FL and for most of this week, the highs will be around 50 and the lows will be in the 30s.  This is not normal.  Usually the high for this time of year is around 70 and the lows are in the 50s.

Here in the middle of Sweden its now -10 degrees (around 14 of your Farenheit i think), when the nigth comes it will drop to -20.

Opposite to previous posters it seems like the winters are getting warmer here.

sixus1 ( ) posted Mon, 04 January 2010 at 12:16 PM

I lived down in West Palm Bch when I was a kid and I remember a couple of years when it was so cold at night that we had an actual freeze.

I live in Cincinnati, Ohio now....it was 9 degrees yesterday and I didn't even have a coat on.  Its been cold this year but dry...no snow really to speak of yet this year.

Everyone stay safe and warm....except for our friends south of the equator....they are already warm...so I guess that they should stay cool...or something.

Awful chilly here too. And windy. When the wind blows so hard like it has been (calmer today tho), it seems that no amount of heat in the house is enough for me. So instead of cranking up the heat, I wear 3 pairs of socks, a sweat jacket, and cuddle under one of my many crocheted afghans created from my sick obsession from making them...lol. At least the darn things come in handy ;o).

It was 7 degrees yesterday, with a windchill of -8 degrees, had 32 inches of snow in the last 2 days and we are to get about 4-6 inches more every day this week.....I hate winter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cold and snowy here too.....we may see a thaw by March, that's the rumor anyway :)

hborre ( ) posted Mon, 04 January 2010 at 2:47 PM

March of which year?

ThunderStone ( ) posted Mon, 04 January 2010 at 3:04 PM

You can call where I live, "The Frozen Apple" because it's really really cold.... Water Main broke in New Jersey creating a very icy and dangerous situation on the road.  Well, I am safe and cozy in my own little house.

Not sure which year, hb.....all I know is we had a blizzard that started Christmas Eve, and we just now got our edge of driveway bobcatted so we could get our cars out without bottoming out.

Too cold!! Too cold!!

SamTherapy ( ) posted Mon, 04 January 2010 at 3:29 PM

Been cold here - UK - for the past few weeks.

You guys seem to forget we're on the same latitude as Moscow and floating in a cold sea.  In fact, we're further north than some parts of Canada.  If it wasn't for the Gulf Stream we'd be permanently ice bound.

Nice and toasty in here.  Little Sam is snuggled up in a fluffly blanket and I'm taking care of business while mommy is out with her darts team.

She's still feeling lousy but didn't want to let the team down.

So many are in the deep freeze, I totally don't feel bad anymore...we will see spring, I just know we will. Although it would be nice if we had an unusally warm winter....I would not mind and I don't think any of you would either....I could be wrong.

JOELGLAINE ( ) posted Mon, 04 January 2010 at 3:40 PM

I've suffered hypothermia and frostbite when I lived in the streets last year. I DESPISE winter. The cold can kill more effectively than the heat. We've already had twelve people killed by the weather. the shelters are full and people turned out into 9 to 15 degree F at night don't live long.

Winter might be funny to some people, but having almost been killed by it and watching the numbers of fatalities at the local morgue go up due to it... I'm not laughing.

I'm with you Joe- ppl don't seem to realize that in a single blizzard in chicago up to 300 ppl can die. That happened a few years ago.

*"We just haven't gotten out of the last Ice Age yet!"

*Yes, technically we are still in an Ice age. The norm for earth is to be without icecaps. In the last 3 million years we've had about 30 different ice ages. We are still in the last one.

Yesterday,, just west of me about 40 miles it was -9F (-22.7C). Here inland it was -1F

Excuse me if I don't feel bad for you!I'll be more than happy to swap temperatures with you!  You have beach weather compared to here!

Currently it's -28 Celsius (-18 F)   That's base temperature. I don't know what the windchill currently is, but whatever it is, it's making it feel much colder.

Tonight It's supposed to get down to -34 Celsius (-29 F). Again, that's without the windchill factored in.

We had ice-rain this evening (Haarlem, Holland) and it was so slippery, me and my wife wear socks over our shoes when we walked with our dogs, to avoid falling.
We had a lot snow in december, but most of it has melted. I think I like snow over ice-rain, it's far more dangerous
We are going to have freezing weather in the next two weeks. Coldest winter since 13 years.

best regards and keep yourself warm,

Bopper.

LadyElf ( ) posted Mon, 04 January 2010 at 6:56 PM

Yes snow over ice any time :)

Here in Missouri, it's going to be bitter cold all week.  Everyone that lets their doggies out to do their thing, please check in between the paws for ice chunks.

Our lab Oscar came in limping and we had to dislodge snow/ice chunks from inbetween his little toes.

Cold is a very dangerous thing.

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Mon, 04 January 2010 at 7:01 PM

Here in Denmark, it has been the coldest December for 6 years. Not a long span of course, but it made you almost forget what winter is!

It's been snowing again this evening. We've had permanent snow for close to three weeks, which is a LONG time. Usually it snows and then the stuff is melted and gone within a week or less. And they're "promising" more than a FOOT of snow here during tomorrow - lovely (NOT!) because I have to go to work, and since I work the night shift I have to go HOME at a time where it's not likely that the snow ploughs have been out recently :(

I kinda like snow in that it looks pretty on fields and forests.. but NOT on roads or railway tracks.. I can only GUESS how much my train will be delayed tomorrow sigh and I can WELL do without the cold. BRRRRRRRR indeed!

I have some rubber things that attach to the bottom of my boots that have tungsten carbide spikes underneath. With them I can run on ice, and I'm an old guy.

Only -9 here with a 17 km/h wind. I'm not sure what that is in Fahrenheit.

Main room at 60F (15C); outside about 32F (0C) plus bitter sharp cutting wind; rest of house at about 41F (5C).
Computer room bit warmer; but thick socks, trousers and a heavy jumper keep the worst out.
Snow about 3" deep out there ...
Lovely, ain't it!

You're not telling me that everyone is going to lay around on their bums just because there was a mild, minute even, snow clobbering.  Just because there is a wee bit of snow on the ground does not mean you have an excuse for slacking off.  Pull yourselves together men!

That's why we Yanks revolted! We Americans get pissed off too easily. When the snow comes, we plow it, scrape it and salt it to pieces when possible!

I was out earlier and I heard an old woman wrestling with her winter gear cry out, "Global warming, save me!" She was joking, and everyone in earshot bust with laughter and said, AMEN!

Maybe where you live...lol.

I know in places like Buffalo, NY where they get tons of lake-effect snow, they'll plow the roads open fairly quickly, even multiple feet of it.

Here, a foot of snow overwhelms the authorities...sometimes they just let it lay where it falls ;o). After all, ruts form after awhile after so many cars drive over it... groan...
