Subject: Curious Labs Really Sucks?

nitreug ( ) posted Thu, 26 July 2001 at 12:09 AM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 6:01 AM

I have PPP and I have always those five plugins errors even after reinstalling poser on a different drive and cleaning the registry and the drive. They answered only once a week but never give a real answer. I will never buy a product again from them. I sent them many e-mails but they always ask to re-install my software. I did it five times but I am feedup.

You know I have had dealings with their email and they need to work on it, so you should call them.....I got a much better result when I called them directly, it will cost for the long distant number, but it is worth it. This is their number 831-462-8901, give it a try. Sharen

I was wondering what's the most frustrating ? a) Having a soft that's do not work on a specific system b) Not being able to buy it, just because it doesn't works with your version of Poser (French/German/Japanese). Anyway, since one year, it seems that Curiouslabs has decided to restrain their products to US-Only ... or they are kind enough to export them once there's no more bugs ... Yeah ! I will (maybe) have PPP release 6.0 !!!! Charly

I dont have any problems with ppp or p4. Im on a win2k system and have a US version of them. I wish I could help because I think ppp and p4 is the best poseing app out there and you cant beat the price for what it does

gsalas ( ) posted Thu, 26 July 2001 at 11:35 AM

Famine, I find that funny ever since I put win2k Pro on my system poser has done nothing but give me trouble... what's your secrate? -Gabe-

Which 5 plugin errors? -Jeff

daeve ( ) posted Thu, 26 July 2001 at 2:06 PM

I assume you're talking about when Poser is loading, you get a message that says something like "cannot read AS...32.dll" when it's load the FF_LW and FF-OBJ plugins? If that's your case, I've been getting that error for 6 of the plugins for some time now. Reinstalling over and over didn't work, so I finally reformatted last night and that seems to have fixed it. Running on Win2K Pro with Pro Pack, BTW. Daeve

gSalas: I got problems with Poser 4 and Windows 2K pro, it can't deal with my Ram, it said that I have not enought Ram memory :) when the system has 1.5 GIGs of RAM, I was able to fix any problems with Poser 4 under Windows 2K using the latest update from Curious Labs, Poser is working better than ever now on my system.

nitreug, I spoke with Anthony at length today about your problem related to importer dlls. It sounds like you and Anthony exchanged a large volume of emails and didn't quite solve your issues ultimately. Anthony would like to speak further with you, he was under the impression that his last suggestions to you worked as he didn't hear a reply back. He will follow up in this thread. Charly, We will be making some great announcements about the availability of French and German versions of Pro Pack in the next few weeks. Steve Cooper President, Curious Labs

Dear Nitreug, As Cooper said, I was under the impression this was resolved. Clearly, there was some miscommunication and for that please accept my sincere apologies. If you like, you can email me your phone number direct to anthony@curiouslabs.com and I'll be glad to call you whenever's convenient for you to walk through the problem and your installation. If you'd prefer email, please send me the details about your installation and we'll go from there. Please be assured that I will do absolutely everything I can to get you up and running as quickly as possible. :-) Anthony Hernandez Curious Labs

To JeffH: Here are the five pligins errors: Errors: > - FF3DMF.ARP > - FF3DS.ARP > - ffdxf.ARP > - FFOBJ.arp > - FFText.ARP To Anthony: Here is your last answer: Your explanation of your installation makes sense. Essentially, you are having problems because some part of the installation is looking for the copy on your removable drive if you did not uninstall the other copy. Try uninstalling the copy from your removable drive. If that does not work, you will need to backup your custom content, completely uninstall, and reinstall Poser on your permanent drive only from scratch. ANd I did everything and it still does not work. What your software is looking for and where so I can delete those items manually. I do not care to reinstall but I want to know where is the issue. Dear Claude, Are the 5 files present? If so, where? Can you email me their listed sizes and creation dates for comparison against a known good installation? Try running Scandisk and Defrag. Also do a virus check. Try looking at your Windows Registry. Do this: 1. Select START>RUN and type REGEDIT in the box that appears. Hit [ENTER] to launch Regedit. 2. Use the EDIT>FIND feature to search for "Metacrations" and "Curious Labs". Press [F3] to keep searching after the first hit. 3. DELETE all references to the Poser on your removable drive. KEEP all references to your fixed drive. And be sure not to trash any entires for other Meta software (such as Bryce). CAUTION: This may cause your installation on your fixed drive to stop working. Also, DO NOT delete any other items in the Registry aside from those related to Poser, since we don't want to bring down any other applications while we're at this. Try Poser again. It should work. The problem I think boils down to the installation on both your removable and fixed drives. Somehow, somewhere, something went wrong. I am confident that 15 minutes in front of your computer would allow me to solve your problem, however it's very hard to do this by 'remote control' so to speak. Also, with the 2 installations, simply deleting and reinstalling Poser may or (as history proves here) not work. Could you insert your removable drive with Poser on it and run the uninstall for that installation? As an extreme resort, you could: 1) Backup your custom content to a separate set of folders. 2) Manually delete the folders Poser is installed in. 3) Run REGEDIT and completely remove ALL references to Poser (every last one of them) 4) Reboot 5) Do a clean installation. If you have Pro Pack, install in this order: - Poser 4 from CD - Pro Pack from CD - Pro Pack SR-2 from our Web site - Run Poser and enter both serial numbers NOTE: When installing, be sure that ALL other applications and services are disabled, ESPECIALLY antivirus, firewall, and system utilities (Norton, etc.). If the above all fails, I'll have a QA engineer contact you directly for further evaluation and diagnosis. That said, I can't imagine why it woud fail if you've effectively cleaned the slate. I see nothing in your system config as I have it that would preclude a normal installation. Thanks again for your ongoing patience. Anthony Hernandez Curious Labs

Thanks ANthony I understand that you give a great support but you understand that it really gave me a lot of problems. So many installs and uninstalls. I did clean everything in the registry refeencing to PPP, Poser, Metacreations (only Poser because I have almost all Metacreations products), Curious labs and even metastream. The plugins are in two places: P:Curious LabsPoser 4Painter 3d for Poser 4PluginsPlugins File Format and P:Curious LabsPoser 4RuntimePlugins Hope this will help I will keep this investigation within e-mail with you for not disturbing this forum. Thanks again for your support. Claude

Hi Claude, I understand completely. I've been in the position of stuff simply not working. Delete the plug-ins from the first listing you gave above. Anthony Hernandez Curious Labs

nitreug ( ) posted Thu, 26 July 2001 at 10:50 PM

Do you mean in painter 3d or both?

Nosfiratu ( ) posted Thu, 26 July 2001 at 10:53 PM

The Painter 3D one.

Charly ( ) posted Fri, 27 July 2001 at 6:42 AM

Attn Kupa -- ref : PPP availability for export (FR & DE) Well, many thxs in advance for your announcement ! I think that particular day should be re-named St-Posette's day ... Anyway, I must insist on the fact that Poser is too much "language-sensitive". This "heritage" from Metacreations leads you to re-write completely each foreign version of poser (what about Italians, Spanishs ...?). Thxs again, Charly (the not-lonely european cowboy).
