Subject: Animation sets tab?

fbunse ( ) posted Sun, 31 January 2010 at 6:51 AM · edited Sat, 10 August 2024 at 6:28 AM

 Hi all,

inside the animation controls there is a tab called "Animation sets". I already did the weirdest things like reading the manual and searching google but I can not really figgure out what this does.

Ive been so far that I can create them, select keyframes and use them as a bone-preselection when saving poses. But there has to be more!?

I know animsets as a very convenient tool in aniMate for DAZ but this does not seem related.

Does anyone know a howto or tutorial about how to use them or could give me a quick explaination what they are used for?

Thanks in advance

They allow flags/controls to be set in other scripted applications. One such was Adobe Atmosphere, now sadly defunct. Others may exist.

My Adobe Atmosphere pages are still on line, though now out of date and some of the 3D world functionality may no longer work.

Oh ok, so in short they solve no purpose to create/edit animations inside of poser?

I was wondering because the manual said:

"Animation sets allow you to store a series of animation clips that are frequently used in combination." and *"You can also apply animation sets to figures.".

*Unfortunately it does not state how to do this and switching them does not have any noticable effect other than changing the selection but the actual keyframes stay the same...

Its mentioned that the "Attributes" button does something for external python scripts but I was hoping that I might could use them to group keyframes as some sort of alternate to layers.

This one appears to still be working:-

The hint to the switch combination used to open the iris door is hidden in one of the chests in the first cave.

The Animation Sets was kept for Legacy Support. There has been an enhancement request to work the Sets function into Poser more directly.

The current method for creating Sets for use with Poser is to create Animated Poses, either whole figure or partial.

How is this different to saving animated poses to the library?

I can see how to create a set but how is it saved and applied to another figure? Is there a worked example somewhere?

poser.Scene().AnimSet("setName") will return the named animation set but what will return or set its atribute?

Thanks. :)

Thanks all for the replies. So I take it the "animation sets" tab is not really good for anything anymore. Pity...

A little bit offtopic but since our Python guru is watching this thread:

Would it (in theory) be possible to add something like an aniMate and/or Pupeteer functionality to Poser with a plugin or is the API too limited/slow?

For those who are not familar with them:

aniMate can basicly group keyframes to independent groups and give them a name. So I can shuffle them around, repeat and/or delete them easily and without checking what exactly each keyframe does and which motion it belongs to.

Pupeteer (DAZ buildin) stores a set of static poses and I can mix them by dragging a cursor in the area between. E.g. I have two poses who define arm up/down and two for forward/backward. Now I can create any mix of them and record this to a keyframe sequence.

That is the current method (set as in New Set when saving a Pose to the Library)

Something different than Saved Animated Poses. What it will be, or if it will be, I do not know.
