Me Too...!!!  I do not know if this info is recorded somewhere,  or how Rendorosity is accessed to obtain this...!

yeah I saw that, I see enough of that guy anyway. He likes being on TV a lot. Wonder who he is?

i'll ask a moderator to check this out.

modus0 ( ) posted Tue, 02 February 2010 at 10:49 PM

Unless I'm wrong, that script displays only that information for the viewer (so everyone will usually see something different), so unless the information is collected somewhere, there's not a whole lot it can do.

And I've seen forum software that collects IP addresses of posters, but it isn't much use for locating anything more specific than a city and identifying service providers, which is only really useful for blocking banned addresses.

it's just her tag line. she probably put it there herself. or her isp did. which I doubt.

It also shows and perhaps records software info and computer type.  This info is useful to phishers..

Its info your browser is sending out , it lets a site know what browser you are using so it can customise responses. You will only see your own info , no one elses. The isp name is often wrong because of resellers.  There is no way to store the info from a signiture line that I know of.

NoelCan ( ) posted Tue, 02 February 2010 at 11:08 PM

Maybe I am just an old geezer  (True)....   But I do find it unsettling.!

JenX ( ) posted Tue, 02 February 2010 at 11:15 PM

Attached Link: http://techpatterns.com/downloads/php_browser_detection.php

The info is what your browser is sending out.  It is only visible TO YOU.  Apple_UK, I have deleted the photo you posted, since you were concerned that the info may be recorded somewhere, I figured you didn't want your information out there.

These scripts do not send any information anywhere.  They simply read what your browser emits, in your browser, and read your information back to you.
When you log into Renderosity, you send US more information than the script in the member's sigline.  That is true for any login- or cookie-based site.

I've attached a link that will give you more information on the scripts.  They are literally nothing to be worried about.

That particular script only shows YOU who your provider is and your IP address.

When I look at my own replies it tells me my own information and nothing else.  I'm not collecting any information, it's just a tag line, nothing more.

Well, I've been using that particular tagline for nearly 2 years now and if you call up the danasoft site you'll be able to see exactly what the image entails.  The site also explains that no information is being harvested and that what you see on the sign is not what anyone else sees.

Believe me, I've been around here long enough to know that if it was damaging the tagline would have been gone a long time ago.

Right, Jen?

LOL I jokingly acted like I thought that was what was upsetting the op in the original post, but it went unnoticed. LOL

She should change the part about being hot to: Now Acorn will use this info to help get loans for those who are less fortunate. LOL That would flood Rendo with upset folks. LOL

Trust me, I don't think he's "HOT".  When I chose that sigline it was 110F+ here in Phoenix for the 15th day in a row and we were all sweltering.

ahem  Let's keep the politics-slinging out of this, folks.   You can turn signatures off in your forum preferences, or, you can scroll right past it if you don't like it.

Point of order.

If political expressions are entirely disallowed by the TOS (this would logically include graphic "statements" showing approval/disapproval of any political figures) then the sig violates those terms and would therefore need to be removed.

If that is not the case then tongue-in-cheek expressions of a political nature that do not extend beyond the immediate should also be allowed.

If the second case is not true then there is evident political bias.

So, are we here to do art...politics...or art with a dose of other peoples "approved" politics?

Khai-J-Bach ( ) posted Wed, 03 February 2010 at 10:13 AM

let Jen do her job. if she's not removing it, it's not breaking the rules.

WandW ( ) posted Wed, 03 February 2010 at 10:23 AM

I wasn't talking about politics; I was talking about art.

My abreviation is no more political than NVIATWAS., although we could change to to "Guy in a suit with a sign" if there's  a perceived problem...

JenX ( ) posted Wed, 03 February 2010 at 10:23 AM

bob, I'm not going to discuss whether or not members' siglines, which are NOT normally part of forum discussions, cross into the territory of political.  There are at least 100 members who have something political in their siglines.  Not one has been asked to remove anything in their sigline.

As I said, if you don't like it, you can either block it, report it, or skip it.  No one is forcing you to look at it, there are measures you can take to avoid the sigline.  Or, you can NOT go out of your way to take offense that someone does or does not support a political figure that you do not, and simply ignore it and go on with the original conversation in a civilized fashion.  Which is how we expect members to act.

The TOS itself does not prohibit political topics, and there have been a few topics that, lately, have broached the subject in manners that surprised even me.  However, this part of our header is what I feel is the most important part:
"We strive to create an environment that is not only conducive to learning, but also to kicking back and having fun, and getting to know one another."

Feel free to broach the topic, within reason, if you wish to do so in a polite manner.  In the history of this site, the topics of politics and/or religion mix with the membership like gasoline and lit candles.  Not a good combination, and quick to explode.  Just know that we watch all such topics as best we can, but, if it impedes the jobs we need to do on the rest of the site, or if we're refereeing more than reading, the thread will get locked.  No exceptions.

LOL sentiment is running very hot in the nation right now. I told a silly little political joke on Facebook a couple of months ago and I've never been attacked like that telling a silly little joke before.  Afraid if it don't calm down it could come to real violence.

JenX ( ) posted Wed, 03 February 2010 at 10:42 AM

There's no problem with it, period.  Like I said, there are hundreds of folk who have something in their sigline that is political or religious, whether it's simply a quote, a link to a site where you can discuss politics openly and get into debates, or, well, something like yours, which simply has a photo of Obama.

What I think needs to go on is this:  If you're truly offended by a sigline, report it.  By offended, I mean more than just "I don't care for it".  There are a lot of siglines I don't "care for".  We're a diverse group of individuals.  We learn to live with each other and get over it, or we can freak out about little things and burn every possible bridge we can find.  That is our own personal choice.  It's part of being an adult.

I very much am :)  I've been trying out baby tickers all week.  I'm currently 20something weeks (depending on which doctor, specialist, or calculator you use...this ticker says 25, my last visit said 23 with a HUGE baby, I'm just looking for healthy, lol)  And, he's currently really into using my ribcage as a footrest :P

Been there, done that.  They thought both of my boys were twins (this was long before ultrasounds) but they were just 11-pounders.

I'll keep watch with you.  I love being on baby watch, especially since I only have one more child without children of his own and who's showing no signs of settling down yet.

The funny thing was I had EXACTLY the same weight gain with all 3 and was as big as a house with all 3.

Often, Art is a Political Statement... Even the "Grand masters" included Political Statements in their Art... some are just more subtle that others.... and most are time sensitive.. having Andrew Jackson holding the Sign would not mean much today, but back in his time, it would have been considered very political.

True, but there's a HUGE difference between posting a political piece in the gallery, and a political rant in the forum.
