Less processes active much better, some are necessary and must remain, other are inoffensive and the remaing kill them even not always easy.
You don't need check for updates, quick starts that instead only makes your computer slower and so on.
Today almost every softure thinks that it is the only owner of your computer and so, makes mess with the registry and installs processes that nobody needs and difficult to kill, to kill them you must deal with the start menu, edit the registry or even kill (delete) the offending file, not too much difference to a virus....
Stupidity also evolves!
