Here's a wild idea...

Do not use your Poser box for anything other than Poser.  That's assuming you have a spare to hand.

I'm fortunate enough to have access to 3 machines.  They're all old and slow but I hardly ever have a problem with Poser.  Ok so it's only P6 but back when people had problems with P6, I usually didn't.

Use another machine entirely for internet access.  If possible, throw all your other graphics apps on a third machine.

And, as suggested above, switch of absolutely everything that's not essential for the computer or Poser.
