I also upgraded my rendering desktop to a GT 240 1gig DDR3 and love it. Even with the old 9600GT Vue would complain from time to time. What is cool about the GT240 is that its power consumption is very low compared to my 9600GT which needed to have the additional six pin molex power cable attached to it. The GT240 doesn't require this and can go into a PC with a power supply as little as 300 watts.
I believe when you get higher up in the GT200 series i.e GTX250 you'll need to have that extra power cable and larger power supply. But of course this is all moot because in a few more months the GT300 series will be hitting the market.
