I used to send a personal thank you to each and every person that purchased my products.. once a week and it would take most of my Saturday even using a standrad template type letter for each product, however I stopped not so long ago because there are actually people that see these site mails as unneeded and to be quite frank I believe some called them spamish and felt that vendors that did this were fishing for product reviews.
My goal was neither to spam or get product reviews but to simply say thank you, but since I can not differenciate between those customers that would like a thank you and those that would see it as spam I figured it is best to not send a note as I would rather not be spamming my customers :(
