Only a day late scott. That's a normal male reaction LOL.

Another way to hide (not delete) is to turn off Extras ...  View > Extras or Ctrl + H. It will hide not only guides but grids, marching ants, slices etc.
 
It's too hard to remember each and every keyboard shortcut but Ctrl + H is one that is etched into my brain.
