I don't even see the point in keeping all of my valued software current. A lot of software sure puts out new versions, but hardly adds anything truly substantial. Am I going to buy every new version of whatever I like using when it's released? No way, I've got bills to pay and a lot of them are asking a lot of money for hardly anything.
Poser sadly is among one of them. I'm not paying $99-$149 for each version that is released when often only gimmicks are added or features are added I wouldn't even use in a million years. For me buying every new version would be a complete waste of money and time. With Poser I'm getting the habit of skipping versions and I don't even get the feeling I miss out anything at all, besides bugs perhaps. I'm still paying the same amount of money as everyone who bought everything.
Funniest thing is that when comparing what people produce it doesn't even really matter which version of poser you use, it all kind of looks the same and never seems to really progress at all. Yes, my personal work is getting better, but that isn't version related. When looking to the people who really know how to use Poser, it doesn't really make lots of difference which version is being used. Some create stunning work with Poser 6, some with 7, some with Pro 1 and some with P8 and now some with 2010. But if you compare the really cool work there's hardly any difference.... it's all still the same old firefly rendering (with perhaps a lot of postwork) we've seen for years. It's still..... Poser.
I'm fine with skipping a version here and there, gives me some money to try out some other applications instead of blowing it all on one piece of software that often leaves me wondering why I even got the next version. I'm getting slowly to point where I'm wondering if I'm even going to consider buying the next version if the one I've got fulfills all of my needs.
I've been working with PP2010 for over 2 weeks now and I'm considering to uninstall it. I'm returning to P8. PP2010 adds nothing new for me and actually renders slower. It's P8 with some extra's I don't use and improvements I don't make use of either. If ever the day arises that I need to use it with one of the big guys like 3D Studio Max, I may install it again. But I don't think that day will come.

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(
Food for thought.....
