Worked for a week....now it cant get out of its own way.(sluggish;useless)back to the first Pro...

Plutom ( ) posted Mon, 22 March 2010 at 10:06 AM

I wouldn't give up on it.  It appears that since it work fine for a week and then became sluggish etc, the problem probably is hard drive clutter.  Use Cleanmgr to eliminate the junk.  If you have a good disk cleaner like McAfee etc, use that too.  Ninety five percent of software slow down is the result of unnecessary cache, temp, register etc files.  Jan

No...I ran ccleaner,defragged,etc...took it off and put old pro back on ..works fine.I think its moneyback tyme. Same thing happened with P8. I think its all the extra programs you need to run these new Posers. My machine also runs the newest vegas....C4D... all my other post software.(I do video post-production) with no prob...I think its just not a serious program anymore. I mean a facebook downloader? I need reliable, useful workflowable software.I liked the potential but SmithMicro needs to get their priorities in order.I mean, dont sell it as a "PRO" if you cant use it in that sort of environment. I realize thats probably why I dont see more examples of Poser in actual productions but I was willing to give it a go. Maybe think of my own way to use it in a creative and novel avenue. However, it does not seem likely now.

Unless you contact Smith Micro and tell them they cannot try to fix these issues.   I have similar slowness with Pro 2010.  There is a rumor of an SR to fix this issue ( I hope )..  Please understand that Poser Pro 2010 is the Newest release (only a few weeks old).

However I do agree about a seemingly excessive use of external software.

I've had it installed all of one hour. Already I've crashed it just posing the default medium resolution female and I see this weirdness every time my mouse passes over a body part.  I hope I don't regret the decision to buy it.

Must be a video card issue. I can get rid of it if I switch to Sreed and it applies to both the 64 and 32 bit versions. Oh well.

I've decided I'm happy with the decision regardless. It'll meet my needs. :)

If you have a ATI radeon card, use the CATALYST 10.3a will fix the problem.

"If you have a ATI radeon card, use the CATALYST 10.3a will fix the problem. "

That is great news if it's true. Have to try it first thing when I get back home..

[edit]
Where do you find 10.3a? suppose the a stands for alpha?

There's only ATI Catalyst™ 10.2 Suite for Windows 7 (64 bit) available...

26th is so close that I think I'll wait for the final release.

Thanks for the heads up!

Ok just got it yesterday and installing today but nervous. As long as I uninstall the beta I should be fine right? Any other install glitches I should be aware of?

Batronyx ( ) posted Tue, 23 March 2010 at 10:14 PM

Thanks Aku! That is good news! That's what I have.

AMD actually shipped Catalyst 10.3 today.

Hi,

I'm a new PoserPro2010 user, just installed it yesterday and I happened to catch this post. I also have an ATI Radeon card, it's a Sapphire HD 3850 with 512 RAM.  I just checked and although I only got this card a year ago, my driver version is severely outdated (probably the original one that came on the disc in the box) , My card's driver is version 8.5 as far as I can tell!I've also been having Poser run very sluggish, as well as a couple of crashes.

I'm not very technical with the pc stuff so I was wondering if I installed the 10.3 fix if it would be ok, considering I'm jumping so many versions from what I have now?  I'm running WinXP SP3, so I was told I have to uninstall the old driver before installing the Catalyst 10.3 and I don't really know how to do that, can anyone shed some light who is familiar with this? Maybe a quick step by step if possible...Thanks, very much appreciated!

btw, someone at ATI told me that this 10.3 hotfix/update also updates the OpenGL version, is that true?

hborre ( ) posted Thu, 08 April 2010 at 6:33 PM

The Catalyst program can be uninstalled through WinXP Add/Delete Programs app in your control center.

musikman ( ) posted Thu, 08 April 2010 at 9:10 PM · edited Thu, 08 April 2010 at 9:11 PM

Thanks hborre, I also just found this article in case anyone here might need the instructions.

http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/GPU-2-ATICatalystSuiteDriverXP.aspx

It's an old article, but looks like the correct procedure.  I'm just a bit concerned about jumping so many versions with this driver update, but I guess if all goes well, my 3D apps performance should improve.

btw, any idea if the Catalyst driver update also updates the OpenGL version? Doesn' t give much info on their website about OpenGL

hborre ( ) posted Thu, 08 April 2010 at 11:18 PM

There was another thread about the announced release and IIRC there is an update for OpenGL.

musikman ( ) posted Thu, 08 April 2010 at 11:57 PM

That's good news, thanks hborre
