They originally came with Poser Pro, so are not Poser Pro 2010 only. They are sort of like merchant resources, because SM gives you permission to create derivative works (modify the mesh and rigging to your own needs) and re-distribute the resulting figure as your own work, even though you didn't create the figure first.

They are meant to be the source of "plagiarized" work - a quick head start on making your own unique figure.
