I dodn't know if putting the 8.4 patch in did this, or whether it's an existing bug, as said I haven't played with Vue much for a couple of months (Jebuz it's 20C outside today, gorgeous weather, yet we had killer blizzards 2 weeks ago!)

I tried adding SSS to a displaced material: the skin of "Goblin Hero" on Mike 4, and it went crazy like your pic, the SSS  and displacement really didn't get along for some odd reason, until I darkened the shade of the  ABSORPTION FILTER COLOUR, which i usually set as a copy of the "Color correction -  overall color"  from Color & Alpha tab.
