Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)

Subject: I've temporarily given up on Poser Pro 2010.

Although there are many things I like about it....the lack of a working C4D plug-in and non-working python script favorites have put me back to Poser 8 and Poser Pro (poser 7). I noticed they fixed the Max Studio plug-in, but no joy on the C4D. Yes, I contacted support and they are apparently working on it. Lack of C4D interface is the deal-breaker for me. I'd be angry if I had paid very much for it.  It seems that these products are becoming more and more compartmentalized.

Vue no longer seems to import Poser Animations....it works fairly well with Daz Studio Collada...iffy, at times.

Maybe it's Win 7 that's causing the problems.

Which Python scripts do you have trouble with?
I run lots of them, and all mine work fine in 2010.

I haven't seen trouble in Vue 8.4inf and Poserpro2010. What is the issue maybe I can see if I have the same issue on my Win7 64 setup (with no UAC and all runtimes in traditional locations).

I have issues with Poser Pro 2010 and it has to do with the camera movement. For me the main preview screen will not move with exception of the very, very bottom section. when I spin a camera dial I can see the very bottom of the grid in the preview screen move with the dial but the rest of the screen stays frozen until I click some where in the screen or select another camera and then come back the one I was using. Same goes for moving and character body part or object.

Also anytime I conform an object to V4, or any figure, the parented item doesn't conform right until I click reset on the camera dial or move the camera then it conforms

SM and I went around and around with this for almost three weeks and as usual they can't seem to duplicate this problem. Their solution is for me to tear out my graphics card and then re-installed running msconfig to see what happens.  This only happens in Poser Pro 2010 and Poser 8. Poser 7 and Poser Pro (7), Vue and the my other 3D apps have no problems. It's not like I have some old graphics card with old drivers it's a GT200 series with the most up to date drivers.

I like PP2010 and the way it renders it makes things look so rich and striking. But I don't like having to fight with the program either so I've gone back to using the older version of Poser Pro for setting up scene for Vue to render. I explained that PP 2010 was installed to a busy work station that is in the middle of a production run and I can't just shut the thing down a screw with hardware and drivers. I can't afford this screwing with stuff to affect the other programs.

SM feels it's some kind of hardware/driver conflict so why only Poser 8 and Poser Pro 2010?

Simply because P8 and PoserPro 2010 were created differently than the other versions.  And because it needs to share software components, we will see many problematic manifestations which will not be duplicated through many machines.  I have been lucky.  Whatever few problems I had, cleared on it's own almost immediately or were solved with quick thinking.

You know, I like you hborre. Maybe we are just lucky.

I'm running XP64 and have little problems and found easy fixes for most of those. I was using a Nvidia 8500gt 1gb. P8/PP2010 ran fine on it but Vue8I lagged. I finaly upgraded to a Nvidia GTX260. No lagging now. LOL.

I have no problems with Vue importing Poser animations.

It must be pretty hard to make something work with every machine and thier vast combination of hardware and software. Seems UAC is one of the biggest problems these days and installing to the programs folders.

Yes I've been reading all the threads so I know what not to do if I ever have to migrate to win 7 or whatever comes after that. LOL.

Hi
What version of C4D do you have?
This is Exactly Why those  poser  "hosting "plugins from makers of poser are useless!!
They Never keep up with the various Target Applications
Frankly with the advent of INTERPOSER PRO®

I dont know why any C4D/Poser user would bother
Spending any money up grading poser
if you have a version of C4D with the Advanced render Engine.

Here's the kicker folks .PZ3 files I created in P7 and the older Poser pro work dandy in Poser Pro 2010 I do not experience the problems I was talking about. However, PZ3 files I create in Poser Pro 2010 give me fits to no end. Goes to show you how fickle softwares can be.

Maybe hborre is indeed lucky I was once lucky too I have been using poser since version 2 and never once had any issues with any version of poser while others were pulling their hair out until 8 and PP0210. Guess my luck is over  hehehehe. But I must take issue the configuration of the render station PP2010 is on isn't some strange, outlandish set up it's very basic so I can't see why SM can't duplicate the issue I am having. Maybe it's their test machines that are strangely configured hahahaha.

Which OS are you using? I had crashes with PoserFusion with Vista (The worst piece of crap OS ever). When upgrading to win7 Poser import worked.      -well, not completly fine but it works . It takes really long to load a scene and sometime it crashes .With Vista it used to crash everytime. Oh I am talking about 64bit mode here . WTF has been 32bit mode by the way ? ;)

I think in all fairness I should state that Smith Micro's Primary Focus is Developing poser for poser users wanting to Create renders/animation etc. from poser.
the " fusion plugins" for MAX, C4D etc. are just an afterthought that  is not relevant to  99 %of poser users by my estimate.
I realized this years ago with the first P4 "propack" plugins  for C4D that Broke as soon as Maxon Made a small point upgrade ( 7.1-7.2)
this is why I sought other solutions by people more focused on providing
Dedicated & updated poser translation plugins for C4D.

Bet you have a Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU. 64 bit.  that is what I have with 16 gigs of ram.

That is the response I got with a few problems I was having on Poser 8, before I got Poser2010.  I've had the same problem with the lagging when I pose, or put cloths on also, with Poser 8 and 2010. I never had that problem with the earlier versions.

Their is something that I am lost on. How do you find out which Poser 2010 you are running. I had 2 Poser 2010 icons come up on my screne. One was loaded into the Program files, the other loaded into the Program files (x86) I ran a heavy loaded scene and Renderened it and clicked on the task master.

It showed me I was running the Poser 2010 32 bit from the Program files (x86). I then opened the other Poser2010 Icon that was loaded in from the Poser files. It said I was running Poser Pro. but didn't say if it was Poser 2010 using the 64 bit.

I ran both very heavy loaded scenes that would kick in using the 64 bit. Timing the scene render speeds, they redered the same timing. Were taling 4.5 min per frame. on an 16 gigs of  ram.

I'm making a movie that in this one heavly loaded long scene that will take 17 hours to complete. Some of my scenes will run at .5 frames per minute. So it is the utmost that I am using the 64 bit Version. Which if the other 2010 Icon is not the 64bit (which I can't find anywhere to tell if it is the 64bit running on my machine. I looked under Help, and Preferences. the only places that would give me that info.

I hate the thought of reinstalling Poser2010 again and the same thing happen if the 64 bit is not running.

Thanks for all the replies...now some updates:

I got the Python scripts working well in PP2010. The only script that doesn't work is Poser Physics...that has to be run from PP2010 (Programx86 version). I'd like to see that program updated.

Actually I do use Interposer Pro for 11.5,,,but it has some severe limitations....for one thing, it doesn't translate dynamic cloth. And some characters don't work. But it is a pretty good program for the Victoria and Michael characters.  I also find Daz Studio collada works with both C4D 11.5 and with Vue in many cases.  Poser collada doesn't seem to mesh with anything.

Currently, I have Poser Pro, P8, and PP2010 on my computer. I really like PP2010 best...I like the floating library really well.and the Poser Cloth room is hard to beat...especially with the Cloth Room Assistant python script.  But, I really like rendering in C4D....it is faster and better. It better be for what it cost!! Ithink, in the end, I'm trying to fit, increasingly square pegs into round holes. I am confident that SM will eventually come up with a working C4D plugin...they have already corrected the 3D Max plugin.

I think that Vue has become the biggest disappointment for me. It seems to be more for landscaping and less for animation....but it's still usable...just terribly slow. I guess lots of tools are necessary to complete a project.

Oh and slowhands you are right. That is the setup I have.

hborre ( ) posted Thu, 15 April 2010 at 2:19 PM

Slowhands and toulouse2k, you should read every window as you install your sotfware.  During PP2010's installation, you are given options whether to load the x86 program and the extra icons.  If you accidentally installed the 32 bit version in addition to the 64 bit, you can safely delete the 32 bit by dumping it in the trash as per another post concerning this issue.

toulouse2k ( ) posted Thu, 15 April 2010 at 9:05 PM · edited Thu, 15 April 2010 at 9:06 PM

Actually, I need both....because PP2010 64 bit doesn't export collada files...it says it does...but there is no file. However, the PP2010 32 bit exports just fine. Plus I like Poser Physics and it only works in PP2010 32 bit.

I finally solved my problem of the Poser Animation to Vue 8.4 fiasco.. Be sure to check the SAVE EVERY FRAME AS A KEYFRAME box and it works as a collada in Vue and C4D 11.5. I just downloaded the Vue 8.5 preRelease....I'll wait and see before I pass judgement. I already own that version, but I feel this is the last version of Vue I plan to get.

"dont know why any C4D/Poser user would bother now"

does I  work with V4 magnets.  V4 has tons of magnets in her, and last time I heard IPP didn't support those so the V4 always looked a bit odd to me in C4D.  Is it different now?
