M3 and V4 are different mesh yes, so one needs a "helper" mesh that can be morphed to either of the two.   Then you can morph the cloth in between, by comparing the cloth to the helper mesh.

With rigging you are right. That is an additional difficulty.

But maybe it would be a beginning for dynamic clothing?
