The advantage is that when the conforming figure loads in PP2010, you can click on the properties pallet and set the check box to conform and scale easier. Plus for your main figures like V4 or M4, I have my python pallet docked and one of the main scripts I use is turn IK off. So then I can move the figure in the scene to where I want because the Body is selected instead of mistakenly moving by the hip.

More of a personal preference thing. The default behavior of defaultpick being the hip just got annoying  to me to the point I wanted to see if I could do something about it.
