Actually, it's a good idea to delete .tmp files as well, particularly those left by rogue programmes like MSN Messenger - never cleans up after itself :cursing:. I use a script that cleans them up for me at startup... just pop this in your Startup folder and the next time you boot, it will invoke the script (you might need to give it permission - in WinXP, it just runs) and then you sit and wait a bit as it cleans them all up. I've cleaned off gigabytes of rubbish left behind that way.
