Subject: I need to GROUP in Poser 8

I just imported 3 prop objects into my main Poser window scene. Is there any way to select all 3 objects props and GROUP them together so that I can make transformations as a SINGLE object ?

Have you tried the group editor?

Go to File > Export > Wavefront object and export out the three objects together.

Now File > Import > Wavefront object and in the import options do not select any of the check boxes. Your model will then import as a single object at the same scale and position as the originals.

just "parent" objects 2 and 3 to object 1 then apply your transformations  to object 1

The group editor is for grouping polygons, not for grouping elements.

So I guess objects and props don't have polygons then.

 The grouping tool isn't for grouping like what you want here.

The easiest way of grouping something is to parent everything to a primitive, I usually use the ordinary Poser ball. Then make the ball invisible and you have a "handle" with which you can move all other things up and down and around :)

Parenting is easily done with the hierachy tool because you can drag everything to the ball, thus parenting it to that - and then, at the end, click the little eye to the left of the ball and it's no longer to be seen - but you can still select it in the drop down menu of the scene items, and easily move it around :) (or move it to where you want the things and THEN make it invisible. Doing it from the start removes the rist of forgetting to do so and getting a ball smack in the middle of something L (Yes.. been there, done that!)

PhilC's suggestion works, too, but then you'll get one static new object. Parenting everything to a primitive keeps each part posable :)

There should be a null object in your geometries folder. I think it comes with the Daz figures but I am not sure. Search for null.obj. Cut a cr2 down to load the null object and allow scaling and translation and that should be it.. My Poser default scene loads with the null object. Then I can load props and use Mat pose since I have a figure in the scene. Plus I have a figure I can parent things to and drag and move around like TG does with the ball.

Always remember in Poser there is more then one way to skin the Mil Cat :)

 Ah. Clever idea with the null character. That would indeed make it possible to apply MAT psoes to props and probably other nifty things (like.. deleting everything in one go? Not sure if that will work though) Hm. I'll have to make me a null character :) Did anyone make one available? No need inventing the wheel twice if there's already one I can download ;)

one I use has this line only in the file

g obj1

in looking in my geometries folder one other had a single line of

g Null

would make a null figure? 

Shouldn't it even link to the actual geometry?

That is the geometry.

No, but when imported, it makes a Null prop.

TG if you want a copy of my CR2 to load the null, send me a site mail with your email address and I will send you my Cr2 file. You would just have to correct-edit the file reference and names to match your homemade null.obj file.
