THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: How Would You

Model an acoustic guitar neck in Bryce. There are complex tapering curves athe the heel of the neck and along the neck itself there is a long tapered curve. I've managed to get the neck and headstock shape made in the terrain editor and booled the headstock angle out, but can't seem to get the booleans to work after doing 2 cuts and conversions....any ideas...if you have a better method I'm willing to start again but  it has to be all Bryce technique..I'd supply a scr grb but it'son the other box in the other room...thanks all in advance.. ...

I see a sound
and try to write it down
Sometimes they come out very soft
Tinkling light sound

The neck  (1) is a cone, stretched the height until the proportion of a neck taper seemed correct. Then boolean cut-away the unwanted portions of the length and radius while also compressing the height of the radius to represent the shallow depth of the neck . The fret board can be produced by duplicating the same peice and boolean the curved side away to leave a flat board while still maintaning the taper from base to head.

The curve (2) is the inside portion of a torus with all the unwanted portions booleaned and cutaway by using combine.

Section (3) is a duplicate of # (1). the length was compressed showing the extreme taper.

This is a quickly thrown together model, though I'm sure with a little more TLC as with Chris's train modeling, it would be difficult to discern from a standard 3d model. I can only imagine the trick will be to get all the texture (shader) materials to coincide.

Good Luck, keep us updated.

You could probably do the whole thing in one piece, but it'd take a while. (Time I don't have - sorry)

Rod's take on this is very good though.

Gotta love booleans!

Thanks for the input...I've been working with HiRes terrains and for the body it's a piece of cake...I'll take a run at Rod's next time I try.. ...

Well I haven't managed to figure out that torus trick Rod...could you send me an unconverted [booleans showing] version so I can see what I'm supposed to do. Obviously you can't make the one I want, but if I can see it I can make it work for me...thanks in advance. Send it to my mts.net addy...I think you may have that or Site Mail me and I'll send you the addy.. ...
