Hi, I am fairly new to the poser world, and have only been seriously playing around with it for about a week or so. Yeah I messed with it before, but never really knew the power of the program up until recently (I discovered bump maps and all that fun stuff lol.) I've downloaded every free figure, pose, etc, that I could find on the internet, about 10 gigs of stuff (I haven't even begun to mess around with a fraction of it.) Anyways, of course, being the geek that I am, I just had to download the Iron-man armor and between making Vicky do pole tricks up on stage and all the other things boys do first after they install Poser, I have been tinkering with an Iron-man pic. I kept it simple, no ray-tracing whatsoever, only surface reflections. I know it's not true to form, but I added the Arc Reactor in the chest, I just like it a little better I guess. I also made my own bump map to give the metal a slightly brushed look, threw in a background, and viola'. After all this babbling, all I am really asking for is an opinion on one of my 1st non-pornographic pics. lol

BTW, if someone could point me in the direction to some gloves and textures that would go with this that would be much appreciated.

Hi there, welcome to the poser world :D

did you also post this pic in the poser gallery? - so you can get more feedback from members that dont come to the forums?

Not bad work at all.  Well done.  Welcome to the maddening world of Poser..!!!

Lots of work to learn,  but a wonderful tool to play with..  Enjoy,  and most of all have FUN.....!!!!!

Thank you. I'm most likely going to do a ray traced version as well, and make any changes if people give suggestions. And yes, it's is quite the maddening world. I think I've spent just as much time downloading stuff as I have in the program itself. I think I am good to go on content now though, so I can concentrate on pictures.

Side question, can partial nude or even "side-boob" pics be uploaded provided I check the Content Advisory buttons? I've been working on getting as realistic looking as I can and would love input on some of those as well.

Yes, nudity is permitted so long as the advisory tag is checked and there is NO NUDITY in the thumbnail.  Please read the TOS..

Gotcha. Do the "Parental Advisory" type thumbnail.

Not necessary to use the PARENTAL ADVISORY..   You can make your own.  Most of us make a 200 X 200 clip from the main image,  normally an area without any naughty bits.

Are We having FUN yet...?

Ok, since it only takes about 30 seconds to render this pic, I re-rendered it again with the traditional chest piece. And as with the 1st, no ray tracing or post work.

Which do you guys think looks better?

Now that you have become addicted to d/ling every conceivable content imaginable, be prepared to be at odds with ill created textures, models and riggings.  Welcome to the real world of Poser.  It will become maddening and infuriating but have fun with it.

Be sure to give as much information as possible when posting in the forum so we may help you thoroughly.  Also, do a walkthrough of the forum, you will find topics and tutorials which will be invaluable.

Iron Man looks awesome!  Please do post it in the gallery.

Caution: you mentioned reflections in your post without raytracing.  That is not possible, raytracing is needed.  And the background most likely is just an image inserted into the background.  We definitely need to introduce you to BB's Envsphere.

Best of luck!

Nice work BionicRooster. I like the third version better as well. The reason , because  in the glowing medallion parts of the blue design are washed out by the light. To me this looks more belivable than the first version.

Welcome, have fun.

You'll need to turn raytracing ON if you want reflections...I noticed you mentioned those. You can't get them without raytracing :o).

Cool pic there! And welcome :)

As it's been said, nudity is ok in the galleries, as long as it isn't hardcore porn. There are other sites for that ;)

Heh and you just confirmed what I'd always imagined.. that boys + Poser = nude Vickies doing stuff L (uhm and that goes for girls too.. my first pics were also rather ..er... non-suitable for this place ROFL)

Welcome here! Have fun! And if you haven't been past my site yet there's more freebies there to be found ;)

Welcome... you made a good start!
Just one quick comment... there appears to be a lot of aliasing (jagged edges) in those renders, though it might just be the upload quality. You can anti-alias the render by using more than one pixel sample in the render settings. 3 will give you much smoother edges at a minimal cost in render time; there is probably no need to go any higher at this stage.

Thank you everyone for all the unput. The "reflections"  are just images, ray tracing was disabled for rendering.I am still getting used to which option has what effect on the final renders, so I now will turn up the pixel shading to at least 3. Hell, up until 2 days ago, I had no idea there was a "separate process" and "number of threads" in the general Prefs. After I discovered those, whoa boy, that made a HUGE difference considering I have a Quad Core.

Wait until you start bogging down the application with displacement maps, raytracing, transparencies and true reflections.  You will be glad you have power to space.  Those are the features that will make or break a render.

Oh I've already delved into that a little. Put a character in a mirrored room, turned raytrace bounces up to like 20, and went to bed whilst it rendered. So I couldn't tell ya how long it took lol

I built my pc initially for gaming:
AMD Phenom 9600 2.5Ghz x 4
2 gigs XMS DDR2 @ 1066 Mhz
and dual 512 MB Nvidia 9800 GT's in SLI

I know it's not a workstation, but it seems to do okay.

Looks great! And WELCOME! You are now warned of an addiction. So be careful!

Nudity does involve side-boob. Just check the Nudity flag at the bottom of your upload screen. Also, when you check that flag it does not put a content advisory thumbnail up for you. You will need to upload one ( http://www.renderosity.com/news.php?viewStory=13472 )
or make a thumbnail that does not show nudity. Almost forgot, your thumbnail can not display any censored type texts or blots on your thumbnail. ( Example: Nudity!, Slight nudity here!) :)

Don't confuse pixel samples with min shading rate.
Increase pixel samples for anti-aliasing.
Decrease min shading rate for greater detail in the textures.

OMG... Ok, all these settings and just how significantly affect the image are what's going to make me insane lol I'm not going to bother you guys with every revision lol
But I do believe my min shading rate was 0.500 in those renders.

Um... 20 bounces are WAY Overkill for reflections. You really shouldn't need more that 6 at most 3 at a minimum. Unless you're wanting an endless reflection room of mirrors that is, then, 20 might be a good call, but I still think that would be overkill. I'm sure someone more technically inclined than myself could tell you why. Like Billbaggins.

try animotions for freestuff cartoon characters.

raytrace bounces 3 should be adequate for most things .

IsaoShi ( ) posted Fri, 14 May 2010 at 7:36 AM

It's worth noting that RT Bounces only limits the number of bounces a render uses; it doesn't make it use more bounces than it needs to.

Setting it to 20 should certainly ensure that no bounces are missed in a mirrored room, for example; but if only 4 bounces are used, a setting higher than 4 will make no difference at all to the render time.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Yeah, I kinda had an idea about how RT worked, I've messed with some rendering programs back when I was in high school. I just was doing a test in a mirrored box to see just how many reflections it would go back. Looked rather cool, kinda wished I saved it.

Those are some awesome renders. I don't wanna over use that suit and play it out, but I will try out a few new things like see if I can get some shaders to work, and if I do anything worth posting, I'll put it up. (was that a run-on sentence or what...  My English teachers would be so mad lol)
