It may be unrelated, but something like this can happen if Poser is closed while it is minimised. There is a simple Windows hot key to maximise the GUI again, but I'm on Mac and I can't remember what it is.... something like Ctrl-Shift-UpArrow, I think.

By the way, one problematic installation does not a bad product make, however frustrating it might be to sort out the cause of the problems.
