I agree with Victoria_Lee.  I have both Practical Poser 6 and Practical Poser 7 and they are much more suited for the novice.  I also do own Murdock's Poser 8 Revealed and it does have a fair share of grayscale illustrations and examples.  However, certain references made within the text are better clarified with color plates.
