Yeah the "vanishing modal windows" is most probably an issue related to some specific graphics display cards only.

I've posted a few times about running Poser in Linux in this very same forum. I first got it to work in Wine version 0.95-dev after some head-scratching, then it didn't work in versions between 0.95-dev and 0.98 and afterwards worked again. There was also an additional issue with Wine versions prior to 1 having a too small heap stack that resulted in Poser going unstable if the number of subfolders in the Runtime grew too big (something along the line of 4000 if I remember correctly). But that's history.
