First Bar-Code if you have ZBrush, I bow down to you.  I got the ZBrush 3.1 30 day trial and there are dents in the desk that holds my computer.  I seem to always get to a one way place that I can't get out of and have to reload.  Any good books on this monster.  It doesn't have a make art button???  Sends me whimpering into a corner after every attempt.

Hi Les,

Are there any other free modeling programs???  Oops saw Laurie's comment on Wings-totally different and as Laurie states is the baby sister of ZBrush-it takes a sphere and you mold it like you would clay only instead of fingers you use the mouse or tablet or both. I tried Wings and Wings is a lot more difficult to do, its similiar to Carrara or Hexagon great for model building but not organic model like faces bodies etc.  Sculptris might be able to do cars, aircraft, the same way you would do a car in clay.  Haven't tried that yet.

So far three of us have come to light here.  Trekkiegirl has been working with this little program and hopefully will join us.

Strengths:  It has very few brushes

Can learn it all in just a few hours, making your own model from a sphere the first
day eg faces, parts of body from same sphere just by grabbing portions and pulling etc, adding mass by drawing more clay on.  For example you can make the same critter you have in just an hour or two, export it as an .obj and color it in say Poser.  Eye balls and teeth are done by   clicking on new sphere and if the symmetry is on you get two spheres, that you can resize and pull into the eye sockets.  If you click on the face, the eyes turn red (mask) so you can work the eye lids around the spheres or click on the eyes (eyes turn white and face turns red (mask) for adjusting eyes.

Weaknesses.  After going into the paint room and paint, just good there, exporting the .obj won't carry the paint information to Poser, Vue or Carrara.

There is a seam running down the front separating the two halves that is used in symmetry.
If you move the face, the eyes etc need to be moved separately.

Can't do any rigging, might be able to in Poser (I never even attempted that).

I don't think you can export the face, eyes, mouth etc as a group.  Importing it into Poser is just an .obj no children (eyes, mouth etc).

UV mapping -- well I can't get it to work period.  TG made a cute little owl that is colored and haven't ask her how is did it in both Poser and Sculptris.
