It is also better to render your animation out as Image files. You can then put your sequenced image file together in a video editing software. VirtualDub is free. You can save to what ever vid file you want as long as you have that codec installed. K-light codecs are free also.

This also let you postwork all you want as well.

As Fugazi1968 points out. make sure you have skip frames unchecked.
