I used to draw 2D all the time as a kid but my sketches never had light or shade or shadow or any sort of feel to them that gave them depth..

Anyone can learn to extrude, scale or rotate a 3D shape and memorize hot keys but it takes a certain inborn skill at eye/hand coordination, ingenuity and imagination to be able to old school draw and paint. =)
