I think the RT bounce thing highlights a problem with the default Poser render settings dialogue, that bounces for RT reflections/refractions are linked to IDL bounces - two different effects with often vastly different impacts on render times.
I'd almost never want more than two or three RT bounces for reflections/refractions because of the huge increase in render times, but there are many instances where I'd (theoretically) want to have higher IDL bounces.
That said, I'm not entirely convinced that Poser IDL quite works the way I think tit does at times - just increasing the bounces seems to brighten the same areas that are lit by one or two bounces, whereas I'd expect the area of influence of the indirect light to increase with more bounces. Maybe it does but I'm not regitering the difference.
Anyway, this is the reason that the D3D render dialogue is so useful, because you can set the IDL bounces independently of the reflect/refract bounces.
