 Having probs with tablet since 2.6.8

It won't save my options for my Genius tablet and I've heard some complaints about GIMP and Bamboo. 

The most I've been able to do with my Genius tablet is scribble all the way to the left of the new file no matter where, on the canvas, my pen is positioned. 

Aside from starting GIMP with the pen tablet, are there any more tricks to get it to function?
