Sounds great! I've actually done something very similar for a project at work, with HTML forms. The data as well as the instructions for building the form were coded in YAML.
As for the improved Luxrender you're thinking of, I hope that there will be a way to merge your additions back into the main stream at some point, since I'm assuming there will be further development on that.
