Wall shadows are complicated.  If the room is purely rectangular, and you're going
to shoot purely from inside, then the walls should have shadows turned off
for speed.  But if the room is L-shaped or has any inward-projecting corners,
then you need to have shadows from those walls for realism.

One thing for sure:  floors and terrains with displacement surfaces should
never have shadows on. 
The renderer will try to cast shadows from every thread on the carpet or every
blade of grass, taking lots of unnecessary time.
