For those who've been wondering where I've been, I've been very busy! This is a structure I've been modeling in 3ds Max for my Poser Graphic Novel, Emberglow.  It's the Normandy guesthouse where the the Governess meets with the Master in order to get pregnant. A Chateau built on the ruins of a Norman Castle, which in turn was built on the ruins of a Roman Fort. dph

Hi David and welcome back!

That's some very fine modelling, I like how you have the ruined wall as well.
Hope you've been well and that you're back to stay :)

Dear Kalypso;
Thank you!
You could say that this is what happens when one gets tired of remapping!

Oh no, don't say that - I need more remaps!

Seriously, your TY2 remap for V3 textures was one of my best buys.  I had made a TY2headA3body hybrid and was tired of matching up textures (not to mention the lack of very good TY2 textures) but now I can use any A3,S3 or V3 texture with her with great results!   Here's a sample.

I now want to make a V4 head/V2 body hybrid which will be able to take either V3 or V4 maps.  Can it be done with the remaps you already have available?

Sorry for hijacking your thread and turning into a remap one :)

erm.
it would only be habitable during the summer?

see, you've got one chimney on one side of the building. the flue size would be good for 1-2 fireplaces tops.... there's nothing on the other side at all, that would be relying on the 1-2 fireplaces you would have.. and for the size of the building, your looking at least 4 rooms plus hallways on the upper levels, maybe a ballroom on the ground level.

one of the fireplaces would be the kitchens in base of the building. so only 1 for the persons living there.  plus you've got windows in what would be the Flue run......

Clearly the one chimney serves a package steam boiler located in the basement which provides circulating steam to radiators in all the rooms.

Welcome back, David.

Dear Kaibach,
Hve considered your criticism and after consulting with my parner, Nanette Tredoux, I've been considering just how and where to add the extra chimneys, so that they conform to the interior layout of the house.  The truth is, that I'm from Israel, and she's from South Africa, and to neither of us, was cold ever a serious consideration.  Silly of us!
Anyway, keep your eyes peeled, and you'll soon see some extra chimneys!, at least for the 1st class rooms - the plebs can huddle under their quilts!

Also, made a Victorian copper Bath for my favorite Poser Female Figure to cavort around in!  This is also a  sneak preview of coming attractions! Again, a self-made prop for my forthcoming Graphic Novel series: Emberglow With guidance and suggestions from my partner Nanette Tredoux, I designed this Bath from real photos by Thomas Crapper & Co. Ltd. (You can find their site on the web). I built the bath in 3ds Max, using by combining a box and two half cylinders together, and then negatively extruding the interior. The feet were sculpted from a sphere. I know that the Bath is very lo-res, that's the way I wanted it, to keep down resource demands when I got render my scenes. The feet are fairly h, because I used a NURB subdivision to smooth them out a bit. The bath though, as clunky as it may appear, serves my purposes well, and is more than adequate to conveigh the impression of a young lady bathing. Every thing was render in Poser Pro 2010 with IDL, and BagginBills indoor VSS lights. Posette has VSS skin shader applaid. dph

David that's some great work especially on the feet and  it's nice to see Posette in this new 'light' :)    Btw, did you use 'smooth polygons' in the render settings?

dphoadley ( ) posted Fri, 03 September 2010 at 2:36 AM

No, Smooth Polygons tends to warp the Bath in very unpleasant ways, sending portions of the exterior crashing through the interior panel in a very unsightly fashion.  Smooth polygons is best left to the figures themselves.
