Architectural work such as rooms etc?

can't do much better than Sketchup for this....since that's exactly what it's made for. the bulk of the Ruby addons are made by Architects for Architects.

there's a huge Ruby addon base at places such as forums.sketchucation.com/ with a friendly user base that do love to help users.

moving from Sketchup Free to Poser is not to hard. the Free edition saves to Collada (DAE) Format which Pro/2010 reads or you can convert it readily enough.

it's easy to use, plus there's a growing number of videos on Youtube for instruction and a growing number of books.
