Hmmm, I've had that experience as well. The "super-conforming" thing might answer some of that, but that sometimes isn't a solution.
Let's say the dress is a C-cup and your figure is a D. You're trying to get the mesh around the neckline a bit closer to the figure's skin. So, you dial the clothing breast -size management thingies but nothing happens (you're doing this for Body first - nothing happens - and then for Chest). So you select V4 and start twiddling her corresponding dials and the clothing follows her re-sizing, and you end up with ill-fitting clothing.
