You know, at the price drop of parts right now. Specially in CPU's and GPU's, that's not a bad way to go. I myself just picked up a GTX 460 1gb for just under $200. And will be getting a 6core 1090T for $250 next week if they are still in stock to replace the old quad on my other machine.
Ram has just dropped again. Another 4 gigs for $80. I could not pass that up.
I have 2 quads and dual core that I use networked together for a mini rendering farm.
