I guess a Linux VM under Windoze would be fine as an interim setup.  But rreally need to run Windoze as a VM on Ubuntu.  Once setup simply use Linux to copy the entire Windoze VM to another location.  Then ANY problem, copy it back.  System reset in the time of a Linux copy (which is much faster than Windoze) and no need to even look to see what is infected/contaminated/corrurpyed.
