Subject: New to Poser Pro 2010

ObscuroArcanum ( ) posted Fri, 12 November 2010 at 9:26 AM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 12:10 PM

Hi Guys,

Finally I have gotten my hands on Poser Pro 2010 after many, many weeks of waiting and tonight I have started to try and install the figures and morphs but I'm having error messages.

Victoria 4.2 installed correctly, but I can't get the Elite Body Shapes or Morphs++ to install correctly. I get this error message:

"When used with poser TM, "V4 Elite Body Shapes" must be installed to the same directory as the application executable; due to the restrictions on support file locations.

Please select the directory that contains your Poser executable."

I have done this. I have selected the Smith Micro folder in the Program Files and also the one in Program Files (x86) as I'm running Windows 7 64-bit but no matter what I do, I get error messages.

I do have DAZ Studio 3 Advanced installed, and I've had everything installed there perfectly fine (before my forced format) so I'm wondering:

  1. Is there a specific path or way to make these executible files run for Poser?

  2. If I install V4 Elite Body and Morphs++ in the DAZ folders, are those features accessable to Poser?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Be careful here asking questions, they'll jump down your throat for not looking for prior threads on the subject. Please check the sticky above on most asked Poser questions.

Life is hard, but what a ride.

just check DAZ when you are instaling

Create a Poser.exe file using a text-editor program and place it in your PP2010 folder.  PP2010 does not use this convention, that is why your installer is causing an error.

I searched the forum last night at 2AM but found nothing useful. I decided to post my question before I went to bed, so hopefully there was a useful solution by the time I woke. I do apologise if this offends anyone, but I am on a tight time-frame to get Poser up and running.

The link that I was directed to look at, "Most Asked questions" was only fractionally helpful as it has explained why I am getting an error, but it isn't making installation any easier.

I have done this - actually I just copied and pasted the PoserPro.exe and renamed it to Poser.exe and Victoria 4.2 has installed correctly. But I am unable to get V4 Morphs++ to install. I either get the same error, or I get a "dependancy error" and the entire installaiton process quits out.

We are assuming that the Morph++ is going into the same folder as V4.  IIRC, you should be able to path direct the installation package to the runtime of your choice.

Yes. It was going to the same destination.

I kept at it this afternoon and managed to get everything installed, more or less smoothly. I was having issues with EvilInnocence freebies, but I think they too are sorted.

Poser is massive! It's a huge learning curve away from DAZ.

BTW, are you using a PC with Vista or Windows7?  And if so, is PP2010 installed into Program Files folder?

ObscuroArcanum ( ) posted Sat, 13 November 2010 at 9:23 AM

I'm using a PC with Windows 7 64-Bit (mentioned in my first post)

The main program files for Poser Pro 2010 are installed in both:

Program Files>Smith Micro & Program Files (x86)>Smith Micro. Just like any other program that you installed, everything gets dumped into one of these two folders.

That is default, you can pick any drive or folder you like and for Win7 most people prefer to install to something outside of "Program Files" because of UAC issues

I know you can pick other locations for the installation path- I'm happier with installing stuff in the default- it keeps everything together, and I know where it all is. It can't get deleted by mistake.

The UAC actually doesn't bother me at all now I've switched it off. I only get the odd question if I've installed a program correctly when I'm installing the .exe for Poser stuff.

I remember that some DAZ installers obviously look for something that is not there. So I read you have to manipulate the paths it is looking for.

No matter whether you use 64 bit oder 32 bit create in 'Program Files x86' the folder

DAZ

Then use your notepad and type

[ApplicationPath]
dzAppDefault=DAZ Studio
dzStudioInstallDir=C:Program Files (x86)DAZ 3DDAZStudio

save it as 'dzinstall.ini' in the 'DAZ' folder unter 'Program Files x86'! Then try installing again.

For some reason some DAZ installers look for the install path in the 32bit environment. Hope this is one of them.

ObscuroArcanum ( ) posted Sat, 13 November 2010 at 9:16 PM

No, this isn't one of them- my V4 and Morph++ installers were looking for Poser.exe when I was trying to install them into Poser Pro 2010 instead of DAZ Studio 3.

The issue is resolved now. But thanks anyway.
