Double-clicking will bring the character onto the stage rather than drag & drop.

It is not true that the character needs to be in zero position for conforming clothing to work.  It is actually advisable that the figure is in its final pose before applying any conforming clothing.  In that manner, you can easily correct pokethroughs and make final adjustments before rendering.
