pjz,
Where was I ever talking about saving at min quality?
I was responding to
Quote - Note that even 100% JPGs lose a lot of color info
No they don't.
Quote - as others have said, .jpg images always have quality loss because the file is compressed, even at 100%.
Yes but the loss is so small most people cannot detect it by normal observation.
Quote - And the more often you save a .jpg file the more loss you experience because the compression is cumulative.
And I demonstrated that this is simply not the case.
I was responding to two fallacies. Never was I responding to the idea that saving at low quality is undetectable, which is what you seem to be arguing.
The two fallacies, commonly repeated, are:
JPEG cannot come close enough to the original to be satisfactory, even at 100% quality.
JPEG artifacts accumulate from repeated open/save cycles, even at high quality.
These are both incorrect statements. My responses are not nonsense. If you're going to say I'm wrong, then explain how I'm wrong. Talking about minimum quality has not got anything to do with what I was talking about or showing.
Quote - this pic (saved at min quality).
That's a wonderfully unresponsive statement. I stated 100% quality and was showing that it is not a certainty that visible artifacts appear with cumulative compression at high quality. Artifacts are there but they remain small regardless of how many times you re-compress the image.
What is the problem with my demonstration?
Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
