THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Grouping linked objects

Hola brycers,

I've created a mecha hand, with all the knuckles and fingers linked appropriately.  The palm is a boolean of two objects.   My intention is to group them as a hand and save it to my library so I can load the hand into another bryce project.

The problem is I can't seem to create a group consisting of the palm and all the linked fingers; Bryce just won't allow me to group them.  None of the objects are locked.  What could I possibly be overlooking?  Is it even possible to group linked objects?  If not, how could I save the whole thing so I can load it into another Bryce file?

I can supply the file if required.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

By "linked" do you mean each finger/knuckle assembly is grouped?  If so you may have to be careful to select each group of objects (including the booleaned palm) then group the total.  Bryce won't let you select a portion of one group and then group it into another.

Someone correct me on this if I'm wrong.  It is like "groups" can be grouped into a larger group but not a single portion of an established group into a larger group.  I may be way off base on this.

No, they're linked, where the knuckle is the joint's parent, and the joint is the finger bone's parent, etc.  The only group is the boolean palm.  I would think it's a simple matter of grouping the whole thing...but maybe not.

Figured it out:

You need to make the palm the parent of all the knuckles.  Then whenever you tranform the palm, all the fingers are affected.  Also, to save the object to your library as a whole 'rigged' hand, you only have to select the palm and all the fingers come with it.

Woot!
