To tell the truth, I've never gotten texture maps and reflection maps to work well togeather, it always seems like one is fighting the other. Reflection maps work well with bump maps, though. You can also turn off shadows for lights you don't need the effect, that speeds up rendering somewhat. Poser's render isn't very good, but it is actually pretty fast, though, I assume you haven't tried Bryce. (...now talk about slowwww!)
