Subject: Elite human surface shader: resource kit?

RobynsVeil ( ) posted Mon, 06 December 2010 at 8:27 PM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 3:51 PM

What are the restrictions? Can't seem to find any info on this anywhere. Thanks in advance...

Go here and look under support section and you should find any info you need on a Daz product....including any legal stuff....TOS etc.

Thanks Annie... I guess what I was asking was: does anyone know whether this Elite Human Shader was a resource kit or was it just for individual use? I had a look on those pages under Support, and there was nothing specific about Omnifreaker's stuff, nor did it mention anything about resource kits and their limitations. The stipulations for using anything created by Daz were really quite severe: you couldn't use any part of *any file in any file you plan to distribute.

If you're talking a resource kit, why have it on the market, if you can't use any part of it? Hence, the question.

You can't redistribute the shader, but you are entirely free to share presets that call it. You have to remember that this is a true shader, written in RSL code and compiled, not settings for Shader Mixer where you can make changes by relinking the bricks. The nearest Poser equivalent would be a Python interface that made changes to the nodes and which you could save settings for: you could share the settings, but not the Python script or the underlying nodes (but in the DS case there are no nodes - it's just a analogy).

That's why I directed you to that page....Daz is strict and they pretty much back it up and go after anyone who violates their terms.  Its always better to know before you go to a lot of trouble creating and then can't use it.

Thank you, both of you. I guess what I was looking for was a shader resource kit for Daz Studio that one could buy and modify and use, similar to what one can do for Poser. I can't assume that a person will have access to this Elite shader thingie because if they didn't pick up Laura 4 or actually buy it, it probably wouldn't be on their system. And users of older Daz Studio versions wouldn't be able to use it anyway.

Thanks again for your input.

EHSS is included with the free S4 base. And presets saved from surfaces using Shader Mixer will work in the free base DS3 (but not DS2), it's just that people won't have access to the brick layout for tweaking (they will have access to whatever parameters are exposed in the Surfaces palette).

So, I'm making two versions. One basic one for those who don't have EHSS, and another one for those that do.

Question: if I go ahead and apply this EHSS thingie ... then, I can legitimately distribute this? I'm planning to do that as a freebie for the DS users for our M4 character Morph-set that we are actually selling on here in the MP. Is there a tute somewhere that covers this? I've looked in the Daz KnowledgeBase but no joy.

Thanks so much to all that respond...

All the preset does is have a line that calls the actual EHSS files, the way a CR2 or PP2 calls the OBJ, so yes you can distribute the preset quite safely.

Thank you, Richard. 😄
