I generally animate using IK for the feet. I just find it easier and have always done it that way.  Move the hip, move the feet , tweak the thigh and calf .

I am having a look at the requested script, because what I miss is a drop to floor where the floor may be a scene prop.  First cut is a bounding box calculation.
