Hmm...But then again.

Your input would be refreshing here hairball!

Drop on by the Vue forum here one day Mesh. We all answer repeat questions, repeatedly, and I personally make sure not a one goes ignored, although often someone else beats me to it. Sometimes, people are directed to a previous thread, with a URL pasted into the URL box or the message. There are days after work where I may spend two full hours doing nothing but answering questions and emails. Do not make such generalised, site-wide statements without looking completely around you first.

twillis ( ) posted Mon, 13 August 2001 at 7:57 AM

Mike, the same is true in the forums I hang out in. And I'm no "main player" by any stretch of the imagination. I've always had helpful and friendly responses to my posts, and that seems to be the norm. Now, it's true that if a poster is rude and abrasive when asking for help, I rarely see a helpful and patient response to that! But when you are polite and friendly, you tends to get polite and friendly responses. That's what I've observed here. If you are not polite and friendly, one should not be surprised if no one want to play with you!

RadArt ( ) posted Mon, 13 August 2001 at 8:04 AM

Peanuckle, anyone?? grin

wiz ( ) posted Mon, 13 August 2001 at 8:09 AM

twillis said "If you are not polite and friendly, one should not be surprised if no one want to play with you!" Problem is that some of these people just don't that they're not being "polite and friendly". They honestly believe that everyone should be thankful for their comments, no matter how rude, for they are sharing superior insights with the rest of us. And they'll gladly tell us all how to run the forum. We've had a few classics in the past, anyone remember SixPacWolf or Soliel?

RadArt ( ) posted Mon, 13 August 2001 at 8:21 AM

aaah garsh wiz, I could throw in a whole list of folks that act like their presence alone is worth replying to....or a "must"....but then this could be said about all those chat messages and IM's sent out a lot of times to come see the greatest work or website ever to be cast before our wanton, lusting eyes and that will change our outlook on artkind forever!! Very presumptuous, either some really feel ripe about themselves or their language barriers make them sound a might cocky...??

Mehndi ( ) posted Mon, 13 August 2001 at 9:49 AM

Actually Mesh Magick, most of the store vendors that I have noticed, do not initiate or respond to all that many posts. They are actually busy using Poser, doing something with it. It is why in the end, they have something to put in the store ;) I myself have to choose between time to read threads and respond, and time to develop material for this store and others to support my son, so if that means not reading many posts nor having time to respond to many, that is just how life is. I won't cry over it. Why don't you take a nice walk, read a good book, go out to a movie, get some fresh air, learn to use your favorite software package in new and remarkable ways. I am sure you will feel better soon.

Doom Dancer ( ) posted Mon, 13 August 2001 at 10:25 AM

Heh...reading the first 10 or so posts to this thread I come up with one conclusion: Bait and Hook. Congrats Mesh...you succeeded. Since we are on the topic though, I do not understand this..."Store Vendor Clique" you refer to. I happen to have made some friends from some of the vendors...and I don't sell a blessed thing. And didn't buy anything from more than 1/2 of those people.

the3dwizard ( ) posted Mon, 13 August 2001 at 1:16 PM

I am with Mehndi, I try to post when I can and when I think I can make a meaningfull contribution to the discussion. However, I have stated it before and I will state if again. I have a problem with venders here who don't participate in the community. I feel that it is our responsiblity as a vendors to participate in the community called renderosity. If it were not for the forums, free stuff, galleries, etc there would be no place to sell. If you don't want to post free stuff, then contribute to posts, etc. If you are looking at it from a purely economic one, which I don't, then today's newbie might be your next customer. If you don't what to contribute to the community then go sell at DAZ3D or BBAY, because they ARE just places to sell your stuff. Greed? Heck I posted a freebie that will only work on someone elses product, not mine and I don't even know the vender personally. I just thought it was a cool thing to do. Selfish? I am hosting some of Schlabbers poses, thanks Schlabber. Hosting costs me money but I didn't like the way Schlabber was being treated and I didn't want the community to lose a valuable resource. Also, this should piss people off, some posts are not worth posting replies to. Face it do you answer every piece of mail that is sent to you house? I bet not. Just because someone posts a message does not mean it needs or desrves a reply. Did I have posts with little or no response? Yes, I figure either it was a bad post, it was week and didn't move people to reply or the person or persons with the anwers didn't see it and thus could not reply. Get over it and move on. You know I looked over the past couple of days in the forum and it looks like nearly every message was replied to, except posts that were DELETED. Most of those messages that have replies are from people who are not in the store. If you want to convince me, then add up all the post from the venders and non-vendor. The calculate the reply rate for each group. I will need to see data to be convinced. Deleted posts, this is another thing that pisses me off, but that is a topic for another thread.

There is no "clique" and no one talks behind anyones back. Okay? Remember folks, don't forget about the "meeting". Same time and place.

MikeJ ( ) posted Tue, 14 August 2001 at 6:55 AM

I forgot the secret handshake. I know that in lieu of the Handshake, we're allowed to use either a password or show The Scar, but in the Rules and Regulations, Chapter 7.1, article 3B, it says that The Scar is not allowed to shown in public under ANY circumstances. That's sort of a catch 22 and needs to be re-written, IMHO. And I forgot the password long ago, so I guess I'll miss THIS meeting. Sorry. :(

Doom Dancer ( ) posted Tue, 14 August 2001 at 6:58 AM

Do I have to bring the beer to this meeting too?

There is always going to be Cliques, they were in elementary when the kids at lunch didn't want to associate with the other kid in the last line. In High School when Jocks didn't associate with Goths. When Preppies were considered goody-goodies. In College, when Computer Lab geeks didn't associate with the "dumb-a**". In real life when everybody goes to lunch and leaves John Doe seating at his desk. In the retirement home, when those on crutches don't want to associate with those eating applesauce. The list goes on and one. Me wonders if there is cliques in heaven, LOL Just jump in there and socialize, I am fairly new as well, but I still try to contribute and get to know everybody, that is just me. I am getting to know lots of people and it's great. But like Dmentia said, some people get along better or become really good friends, and that is really cool! Some people just click better with various people. And like Mehndi said, some people are just too busy making more goodies.

I didn't have to dig much Mehndi, Mesh_Magick as much as announced to an entire chat room he was BlueScarab/SixPacWolf a few weeks ago. ;] Pasted a link that led to one of his other nick's websites as his, and admitted it when asked. shrug No real detective work...

Sssshhhhhhhhh!!!!! Don't give it away so soon Bear...was looking to make some money by f***ing over some starving artists. Afterall...that's what corporate people live for. When I am brushing my teeth every morning in my Lamborghini it's all I can think of. And it is obvious to everyone else when I walk into the office over my carpet of underpaid laborers because there is toothpaste stains on my Armani suit that I bought the previous evening because I didn't feel like washing the old one. Guess I will have to go shopping in Rio again tomorrow.

Ironbear...I am new here, well..new enough to not know the history. What is a forum wolf convention, please?

Ironbear ( ) posted Wed, 15 August 2001 at 10:42 PM

"Forum wolf" isn't really from here... it's an old net term from telenet and BBS's from the mid eighties, Poppi. Coined origionally [I think] by Wraith, Shadow, Kibo and a few old timers... Essentially it means the older veterans of the net wars and forum wars, and the old "net mercenaries". You know... the people that generally don't get into flamewars except to defuse them a bit, but they do flame war REAL well when they choose, or when they get good and norked off. I'm not going to list them: if you read back through the archives, I think you have a good idea who Rosity's old forum wolves are. ;] A "forum wolf convention" is a thread or forum that tends to gather them in, like this one. Places and general discussion forums like C&D, 3DFxGamers.com's [now defunct] "What's on your mind" forum, PlanetGeForces "FlameWars" forum, usenets alt.binaries.flames etc are hunting grounds for forum wolves... that's where they hang out, interact with each other, and relax with the occassional argument. NOT the same as a flamer: most forum wolves don't start flame wars - they end them. Pretty muchly all of the common use net slang and terms had it's origion in the old BBS and newsgroup days... here's a few that grew out of them: Modem Rodent, Forum Weasel, NetWhacko, Cracker or Cracker Kittie, Emoticon... all the slang you see around eventually evolved from those places and the people who hung out there. And new people took it and embroidered upon it and mutated the terms.
