If the heads-up was about an interesting offer of a product I would consider it a helpful contribution to the community.

Instead, in this case, it was a very strange offer give-us-your-money-and-maybe-we-will-give-you-the-program which in the best case was a very fishy behaviour and at worst the cover for some credit card/payal account info harvesting.

In addition, we are not talking about a new program willing to enter in the arena but about an established 800-pound gorilla which requires no advertising at all: a 1-week 50% discount to increase user base would have been credible, a 1200->40$ (97% discount!) is terribly suspect.

Remember: if it looks too good, something does not add.
