Subject: Reference Image Tool?

Cage ( ) posted Tue, 08 February 2011 at 5:11 PM · edited Fri, 15 November 2024 at 5:22 AM

Is there any kind of script or program available which will allow a reference image to be open, while Poser is running, floating on top of Poser so I can see it while working?  I'm having trouble, going back and forth between programs to check reference images for a face.  (I've tried loading the images into Poser on a square primitive, but then I can only use them from certain camera angles, which doesn't help.)  Even an image browser program which has an "always on top" feature might work.

This could be done for Poser Python, but it would require the installation of an image library, which I'd prefer to avoid.

If nothing's available, it seems to me that this might be a useful feature for a future version of Poser.

Cage had some freebies, compatible with Poser 11 and below.  His Python scripts were saved at archive.org, along with the rest of the Morphography site, where they were hosted.

have you tried just mapping a plane and then applying the face to that?

Yes.  In fact, Wings 3D will create an "image plane" primitive, which is properly scaled and UV-mapped for that approach.  I've had five or six images in Poser at one point, using that technique.  It didn't really help me very much, unfortunately.

Ok that is how I do my modeling in Hex and it works pretty well. Never tried it in poser though.

PhilC also has Rotoscoper

http://www.philc.net/Rotoscoper.php

It's designed for animation but I use the screens to load reference images.

IrfanView (free) has an "Always on Top" option on the Options picklist all the way at the bottom. It is a great all pupose image viewer with some image editing functions.
