I'm sure you have hit on the correct explanation. I tend to forget about the Change Figure button, because it is something I never use.

Just to avoid any possible confusion, SteveJax means "delete the default figure" from the document window, not from the library palette. Sorry if this seems all too obvious, but there is always a chance that someone will read it wrong.
