There have been unofficial guides, but all derived more or less from reverse engineering. There's nothing definitive from Smith Micro (or previous owners), especially nothing to do with future directions.

In a previous job, we used to have a saying based on a paraphrase of Hanns Johst's famous line: "Whenever I hear the word 'assume', I reach for my gun... Then shoot myself in the foot." :)
