I looked into it a bit more, and mdd only moves vertex location inforamtion between applications, not bones, etc. You would still need to import your model from Poser into Messiah, maybe using .obj. Then you would export your animation/pose from Poser as mdd, import the mdd into messiah and apply the mdd to the figure. All of the model vertices will then move to the same location/position they were in Poser. This will duplicate the aniamtion and morphs that were applied from Poser to messiah for a static image, or each frame in the animation.
A bit more work than I had hoped for, but would be a usable solution. Right now it looks like the best option may be to re-rig the poser figure in messiah (I guess autorig makes this very easy). For different characters/morphs, you would need to apply them in Poser, export the figure as obj, import into messiah and apply as a morph target to the rigged figure.
(note: from what I've read, obj import in messiah does not import the textures, so you will need to re-assign your textures forf V4, or whatever figure, after importing into messiah)
