I brought up this problem with the WW renaming a couple times, but I was over-ruled.

You are welcome to take it up with PhilC, even though he didn't seem very keen on considering any alternatives to his proposed solution.

In fact, if I don't hear back from him by the end of this month, I will assume that he's lost interest in the project and kill off the supposedly WW-compliant branch.
