Subject: A real churner, thought provoker, and is it hot ?

Dave-So ( ) posted Tue, 22 March 2011 at 6:11 PM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 5:54 AM

this has probably been hashed about a few times, but I was just looking at a couple of 3 or 4 character/texture packages for V4, when all of a sudden something smacked me across the head.

What you need more textures and character for? you must have 20 or 30 already.
Once you put clothes on em, you can't see the textures anyway, you can't see the breast greatness, anything. the detail in the knees, elbows, anything.

In actuality, unless you're doing swimsuit or nude pinups, the only thing you need is maybe from the chest and up. neck and face....the rest is covered///so what is the point of all these textures?

Yes, they're looking really fine and nice, but what ?

I d like different faces, face structure, and even changes in body, shape etc, but for the most part, unless doing nudes etc, you don't need more textures. Sorry to you vendors that make textures, just thinking real here.

Your digital chicks never undress, ..........ever?

That is so wrong I mean ...

That is so wrong

or is it a variety thing?

Dave-so If you don't mind loading textures by hand, you don't even need to load the textures. You can also hide the body parts that don't show. That can hepl speed up render time.

early on all the textures had to be loaded manually, piece by piece.
i do nudes for sure ...so variety is helpful, but overalll, I could get by with one texture set and roll my own character....
but there must be a thousand V4 character and texture sets

It's like wearing underwear. It may not be visible but, you might have an accident. You want to be wearing underwear and, like your mother always said, you want it to be clean underwear.

Let's see reasons for a different character texture:

  • Posistion of freckles/moles
  • skin color/tones
  • Different size/color of nipples/genitals.
  • If she's got a racing stripe or bikini wax down there or not.
  • Tattoos/other markings
  • Different shaders/effects to go with your render
  • Makeup options

However yeah, you get too many after awhile.  Eventually it's mostly the face that interests you first.  If someone like sarsa and thorne, RM, sabby, etc just put out packs which have a few face morphs for awhile, I think those would get good sales.  Maybe do a character texture pack with 5-10 textures in it.

I tend to agree with you, Dave-So.  That's why I stopped making human skin textures and moved to the robotic stuff.  There's no point in competing in a flooded market, especially when most vendors use premade bases and other resource kits.  I used to build mine up from plain old photos which is damn hard work for little reward.

Likewise, I used to buy a lot of textures but tbh, most of the ones I've seen for V4 - including the DAZ ones - are not great; in fact, the Victoria 4 HiRes maps are terrible, IMO.  In any case, I really think I have enough.  If I want more I can always make my own.  That said, there are one or two characters I'd buy just for the convenience of it.

@ Winterclaw - all the options you mentioned can be achieved with nodes.

Hmmm, virtual blackface? Nah, I don't think I'd be happy with White Vicky colored to be Black, Asian or Hispanic Vicky. I'd prefer real freckles as well but it is true that after awhile, they become redundant. I think that the market though is conditioned to expect that a character should include textures. If nothing else, people see the promos and they want 'that' character - the textures are a part of that look. It would be nice if they offered the textures separately but I'm not sure how that would impact revenue. I bet quite a few people use the packages as is and never think about mixing and matching characters and textures.

Please tell , where did you find clothes that cover the the textures? All I can find here is panties?      :)

Lzy724 ( ) posted Wed, 23 March 2011 at 8:20 AM

my problem with new characters and why I rarely purchase them is to get them, find out its just about the same morph as the others from the same person with the same skin, and 2 new make ups.  thats a huge disappointment to me.  enough to stop buying new stuff from those folks again.

Hi lzy724,

i agree.  Years ago i bought Michelle for Jessi.  Long story short she was a real disappointment.

I've got more textures/characters than I know what to do with.

I find that I tend to use a few favourites repeatedly and I mix and match morphs with textures and eyes and lips. It gives more variety that way.  But I still have character/textures that I've bought and never used, or bought and never even installed.

Clothes ???? that was too funny :)
I did see a winter fur coat that was open to the navel, but the breasts were covered.

well what would happen if I made a character for my comic, and had him dressed and running around the place, and then in a few chapters time I decide I need that same bloke in a hotel room getting changed into his other clothes or doing his laps in the local pool etc?

you  need one texture for your man...not 2 thousand ???

obviously you need a few textures for variety, or you can post some freckles, zits, ehatever and make a few changes....my point is the fact there are so many texture/character packs, how many does someone need really.

I must have a hundred myself ... its like an addiction. Maybe I'm fulfilling my need for a harem or something.

hehe I presume you are talking V4 Dave.

Well I am not so sure I only need one +/- zits. I find that it is not easy to take the M3 out of M3 or the M4 out of M4, and to make the character really look different when you have 3 standing in a scene all next to each other, you really need a few different textures.

It is amazing how a different texture can completely change the look of a character. I think it is just as important as a morph.

well I already find I have way more head morphs then textures.  For example M3 has all those character dials like Steven, sebastian and jeremy etc.  (not to mention 0.5 of one dial and .3 of another etc) and not to mention one can alway spin a few dials oneself.
